Update 7 – 12:00 pm, Feb. 12, 2016 - Boil Water Advisory (BWA) is now ENDED.
All bacteriological samples for the waterworks system were acceptable and the Boil Water Order is now rescinded.
All residents, public facilities and businesses, please follow your respective procedures from the document posted below in Update 3, which applies to your home, school or facility, "When the Advisory is Over," or "Procedures to take After a Boil Water Advisory is Ended," or "What do I do after the Boil Water Advisory is Lifted?"
Update 6 – 10:30 pm, Feb. 10, 2016 - Water pressure normal. Boil Water Advisory (BWA) still in effect.
You may boil your water for drinking and cooking, or use the bottled water that has been delivered to you by the System Owner.
Second round of distribution system testing is now complete and samples have been delivered to the laboratory. Sample processing requires a 24 hour incubation period and processing will commence Saturday morning. If results are satisfactory, then on Sunday, the laboratory will contact Alberta Health Services (AHS). AHS will determine whether the BWA can be lifted and will notify us immediately, and we will notify the System Owner, as well as update the website.
Please continue to check back for updates. Even after the BWA has been lifted, we will be completing a permanent repair to the distribution system upon receipt of additional parts. We plan to complete the permanent repair with MINIMAL interruption, and ask for you cooperation in refraining from using water when the repair is being conducted. We plan to undertake this repair in approximately 7 days and so we will continue to update the site as to when we anticipate any further service interruptions.
Update 5 – 5:30 pm, Feb. 9, 2016 - Water restored. BWA still in effect. First round of distribution system testing after flushing is completed. Chlorine levels will be a bit higher than normal during flushing.
Update 4 – 4:45 pm, Feb. 9, 2016 So what happens next? We will re-pressurize the system at approximately 5:00 pm today. This is an interim repair only and we need to ensure the system will remain pressurized. You may boil your water for drinking and cooking, or use the bottled water that has been delivered to you by the System Owner. Once pressure is holding in the system, we need to flush the system- we will be using a significant amount of water in order to carry this out. As well, we will be increasing the chlorine residuals in the distribution system, during the flushing process, per Alberta Environment instructions. Then we will be conducting bacteriological testing, chlorine and turbidity monitoring throughout the system. These same tests are required to be repeated, as outlined by AHS. Only when the SECOND set of test results are “Satisfactory” will AHS remove the BWA. This is going to be a matter of days, just to provide a timeline. Do NOT drink the water until the BWA has been removed by AHS. We will send our operators around to remove the BWA notices from your home, once we have the ‘all-clear’ from AHS. In the meantime, if you require assistance lifting bottles, please call us and we will try to arrange to send someone to help you. The backup fire-fighting plan put in place with RVC Fire Department remains in effect and was re-confirmed with the Fire Chief at 4:20 pm.
Update 3 – 3:15 pm, Feb. 9, 2016
Advance notice of Boil Water Advisory (BWA) being issued by Alberta Health Services (AHS).
The concern is as follows: When a distribution system is de-pressurized, water in and around the vicinity of the now de-pressurized line can enter the line and this water that could potentially enter the line from a higher pressure zone may not have adequate treatment. This is a PRECAUTIONARY measure and a COMMON PROCEDURE. This procedure is undertaken for the sole protection of your Health & Safety.
Notices are currently being disseminated to Manor, Harbour, School and Village. Please refer to the attached documentation for what to do next.
Update 2 – 1:33 pm, Feb. 9, 2016 The repair is currently in progress, parts & materials onsite. Notices have been put up at each Village home and in the Manor, Harbor and School indicating where additional water is available. The repair is more extensive than initially thought as the pipe has flexed quite a bit. This means that today's repair will be temporary until we receive the cutom-made flex fitting we have ordered. We will wait until 4 pm to allow pipe glue to dry. Then we will slowly pressure the system back up to see if it holds or if there if there is futher damage (in-ground piping that we cannot see). During this week we may reduce the distribution system pressure a bit, however we also do not want the fire pump to come on unless there is a fire.
Update 1 – 12:00 noon, Feb. 9, 2017:
We have located the problem causing this morning/s water outage. A cracked flange of the main 8” supply line for the community has shifted, with the cold temperatures and broke the flange.
We have isolated the problem, and we are in the process of completing repairs on it right now. We were able to pull parts from our inventory and suppliers in town and have a full team onsite working on it.
Our target time is roughly 4 – 5 pm if no hiccups
Bottled water in 20L jugs has been delivered to the Harbor, Manor and School for drinking, cooking and flushing toilets. Please ensure all toilets are properly flushed to maintain adequate sanitary levels.
Use the water as sparingly as possible – only absolutely necessary usage.
Fire Plan Rockyview County has been notified and as at 9:05 am they have put an emergency fire plan in place in the event of a fire and we are in communication direcly with the Fire Chief, Randy Smith.
More Water Water will be available for residents of the Village in 15 L jugs. These can be picked up at the Village Community Centre. One bottle per household only at this time please.
Please check back for more updates as this site will be updated as information becomes available.
